I am currently looking for a new owner for my 14-year-old GCC named Joey. Joey is my best friend but unfortunately, my mother and I are suffering from serious health problems (unrelated to Joey in any way) and can no longer take good care of Joey. It breaks my heart to put him up for adoption but we would like to find an owner more suitable than us to care for Joey. Everything will be provided from food, cage, playground, treats and of course Joey himself.
Joey's personality:
Joey is an amazing bird that we are very lucky to have had in our lives. Joey is playful, loves flying, enjoys freedom and likes to rest on your shoulder playing with your hair. Joey can learn new tricks and always wants your sole attention on him. Therefore, spending time with Joey is the greatest gift for you and also for him. The only downside is that if Joey feels frightened or threatened, he may try to nip at you. It should be further clarified that I have a dog who, if gets too close, will be occasionally nipped by Joey. Joey may also pinch your hand when climbing onto your finger. Joey has not been around other birds but considering Joey only nips if he feels unsafe, having a big household where he can fly can be good for him and would be beneficial if the new adopters have other smaller birds. Joey is also very smart and can not only say his name but becomes intuned with your voice when you sing. In his free time, he can be a little bit mischievous (like many conures) tearing up some paper in his play tray, having showers and also flying around where pleases. Joey does sometimes need to be reminded that food is in his cage or else he may end up skipping a meal, but that is due to his enjoyment of freedom. I would also like to mention that I am looking for an experienced bird owner to care for Joey and give him the love he needs. Which will be highlighted in the next session.
Owner Shoulds:
- The owner should be experienced in handling and caring for Conure birds
- The owner should be financially and emotionally stable (Joey hates yelling)
- considering Joey loves attention, the new owner should spend time with Joey often! Preferably work from home or even retired to spend as most time with my beloved Joey. (Attentive)
- Furthermore, I would like an owner who spends the majority of the day within the home to grant Joey the freedom to fly
- The owner should be patient with Joey as he may be unfamiliar with his surroundings
- Give Joey frequent head massages and ear massages (I will teach how)
- Owner should of course above all be loving (I would like this to be Joey's final home)
- Give Joey his favourite treats (Cashews, rice, fresh fruit: mango, apple, banana and whatever you are eating as long as it is safe for Joey)
- Allow Joey to shower
Owner Should Nots:
- Should Not be a new bird owner or inexperienced with conures
- A person looking for an easy bird to take care of
- Should not travel often
- Should not keep Joey locked in his cage all-day
- Should not have a loud environment (Joey enjoys peace and quiet)
What would be provided:
- Parrot Light
- Parrot blanket
- Cage
- Food & treats
- Playground
Joey's Schedule:
8 am wakeup
8am -12pm free time and play
12pm - 1pm lunch (back in cage)
1pm - 5pm free reign (Please make sure no dangerous items)
5pm - 6pm dinner (back in cage)
6pm - 9pm free reign
10 pm bed
10 hours of uninterrupted sleep minimum
