I am going to foster for a bit or longer. The question would be about cockatiels. A gentleman passed and left the bird and to his son doesn't want the bird, my question is, should I take him in?

Do you have other birds at home? Do you have the time? Do you have the money? These are questions to ask yourself. Nobody can tell you whether or not to take the bird but we can help you decide!

Sounds like the bird might work for you. Do you have other pets? Have you owned a bird before?

Yes. I do think you should take him in. Better to know this bird will be taken care of under your care and even if it's temporary you will be responsible in making sure it goes to a good home. Share some photos when he arrives. :D

Taking in a bird on short notice can be super stressful but if your heart is open then perhaps it is timely considering your situation. :) If the son isn't interested in birds then it seems like the tiel would be better off with you. As others have said, it doesn't have to be forever, so you can always consider it a foster situation and keep him until you pass him to his next home. I'm biased, but tiels are sweet, wonderful birds, even the sassy ones. :laughing2:

I lost my buddy Valentine and she was 14 years old! She passed not too long ago. It has been my desire to foster a bird because I have everything they would need. It is going to be an adventure and I would like to be on that journey. Thanks for all the replies

So, I take that as a positive! Can't wait to see your new charge. It is so hard to lose a special bird we've loved for so long. Even though it wasn't so long ago when you lost Valentine I think taking in this cockatiel will bring in some healing and fill the void of quiet for you. Hugs dearie... :D

The cockatiel got adopted and there is a bird show in April, guess who is going? I will be asking questions at the vendors booth, I am not giving up on fostering or rehoming. I will be going with a friend, hope they don't get too tired from visiting the booths with me! :sleeping4:

It's not the OHPA Bird Fair is it? I will be there if so- at a table for PEARL rescue. I didn't think you lived near me though- so maybe another bird fair?

And sorry about the tiel.
