I have one of the vireos hanging around, too, but like the nuthatch, he won't stay still long enough for a photo.
can you attract them with a feeder? I love vireos, have gotten a shot of them twice here in TN!

Yes. The sapsuckers drill shallow holes in the tree to drink the sap. It doesn't, generally, harm the tree any more than drilling a maple tree to harvest sap for syrup does. The same birds can use the same trees for years without damage to the tree. You just make sure the tree is watered and fertilized.

Went out a little while ago to find the sapsucker hanging on the side of the step ladder. All I could think was "Not gonna get much sap outta that tree..."
