Pictures Recessive pied - boy or girl?

Hello,

Attached photos of the new budgie I brought home about 4 weeks ago, which the breeder believe to be male.

He had a pink cere for the first week, but the colour has changed so much in the last few weeks I'm really not sure he is a he any more.
He is approximately 12 weeks old now, these photos were just taken last night.

This is my first recessive pied budgie, and after reading up on how difficult they can be to see, thought I would reach out for some more experienced opinions.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmmm looks like female but not sure how the mutation affects it...still pied should look like a female if its a female.

I'm not an expert in mutations and gender, but those nostrils says Girl to me.

I need a photo without flash, but it looks female.

If cere remains pink, it's a male.

If cere changes color, turns white or blue, then female.

Thanks for the replies so far, definitely leaning towards female.

As requested I have added a couple more photos with no flash in case it helps.

Thanks!

The light in your first picture was good enough to see female gender.

I just wanted to say WELCOME, and whatever sex your Budgie is, he/she is gorgeous.
To me, the first pics look female, and the second two look male! :welcome2:

I agree, the no flash pictures make the cere look more pink.
But looking at the budgie in natural light, the cere is definitely a mix of pinky purple near the beak, blue around the edges and pale blue to white around the nostrils.

Thanks for all the replies. Any more opinions greatly appreciated!

Looks like male, however, at 12 weeks it could by either one. Around 6 months males will have pink to purple ceres while females will have white to pale blue ceres. The recessive pied gene does affect the cere, males will pink ceres their entire lives, this pied gene does not affect the female ceres.

Very pretty. I am looking at albinos and the babies to the young adults all have a similar cere to yours. Depending on the lighting it is 6 of one and a half a dozen of the other.

I also have a recessive pied and getting so many mixed responses I have no idea 9n the gender

This is a rather old thread. Suffice it to say though, if you have an adult budgie with a pink cere, it's a male! Recessive pied and Ino males will *always* have a pink cere.

If the cere has any colorations of a female, that is, white, white with tan/blue, tan, brown or crusty brown, then female.

Double factor spangles will appear to be dark eyed ino birds and males will have blue ceres. They are not actually ino though.
