e"JAM, post: 1919667, member:. I got cloth books753"]I try to read to the birds, but they insist on eating it instead.
To fix the eating disorder lol we went to cloth books which so happen to clean up well when fed. Put your birds name in the story as they love it. See Cara's post as how she uses the birds name

Thanks so much for the idea! I did this to Archy last night and he came out of his cage and sat beside me as I read. He LOVED it!
Awww, what did you read?

Lol something not very bird appropriate I'm afraid. One More Thing (Stories and Other Stories) by BJ Novak. It's a really funny book I have to read for my book club, but there are swears I had to skip over in case Archy decides to suddenly start speaking. Just my luck!!
:wacky: Lol lets hope Archy just listened to the emotion, not the words!!!!

I know this is a very old thread but just want to revive the discussion about reading books to birds. I think it's a great interactive, bonding and learning experience. I've been doing it for many years. Two of the favorites with mine right now are: "A Frog in the Bog" and "Stellaluna". Just wondering if anyone else is reading to their birds and, if so, what are you reading to them. Also here is a short article about reading to birds: Inside Dr. Pepperberg's Lab: Reading to Parrots – Pet Birds by Lafeber Co.

Yes absolutely! I read to my bird and I also sing a lot! I made him a bird friendly interactive version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar that I read to him often. Even though Patches is a conure he has started mimicking a lot of our sounds, and 3-4 word sentences (very croaky sound).

I read to my parrotlet, he seemed to like Alice in Wonderland (I ofcourse committed to doing different voices for different characters :laughing2: ) I haven't tried reading to Custard and Crikey but I think I'll give it a go

I have a huge container of childrens' books in the garage and need to look through them because I keep re-reading the same books. Maybe not boring for the birds, but boring for me.
