Raj is going to the vet due to seizures

I suppose your vet has done a blood test to check for heavy metals? My parrotlet had seizures due to zinc toxicity, but there are many other reasons for seizures. Prayers and best wishes for you and Raj!

He talked about that and valium as treatment options, but wanted to rule out anything that could come up in the blood tests.

He had a seizure on my shoulder yesterday afternoon so I just held my hand gently on him as he flapped his wings for a bit...I could hear him make the faintest sound...sort of like air escaping when your trying to hold it in. He then becomes very unstable as if he cannot balance correctly..and he seems exhausted and he has his beak partly open - then about a half hour later he fluffs up once or twice and then he acts normal..starts preening, and eating (alot)..it is so strange.

Seizures are so very scary to watch. I am sorry this is happening to you

I hope you are able to get some answers. Seizures can be difficult to watch, hard to figure out the cause of and even more difficult to control.

Thank you everyone for your concern - Raj and I appreciate it lot! The blood tests came back normal so that rules out Diabetes, Cardiac condition, and poison/toxic ingestion.

We will be treating the seizures with phenobarbital...most likely till the rest of his days (hopefully it will be many many years). At least I can mix it with his food (I was not looking forward to syringe dosing the medicine - Udo and I are still recovering from when he had to get medicated with the syringe twice a day )

Raj died in my hands....I had just put him in his cage, I heard flapping and knew he was having a seizure. He made a louder noise than before and passed in my hands. I kept waiting for him to come around...I can't believe this. Thanks to everyone who kept him in your thoughts...help me send him over the rainbow bridge with loving thoughts. Fly free baby boy I am going to miss you.
