R.I.P. Gustavo

I hoped I would never have to make a post like this but Gustavo suddenly passed away this morning and I don’t know why. I just found him on the floor of the cage. I’m beating myself up because I feel like I should have been able to protect him.

Yes, I am. I need to know what happened because if he was sick, the other parakeets could catch it. Plus I need to know what happened to my baby.

He was still so young, he wasn’t even a full year old yet. I just don’t understand what happened. This is my worst nightmare.

By any chance did he come from a pet store? Unfortunately a lot of pet store budgies come from the equivalent of puppy mills. Due to poor breeding, etc many of them just don't live very long. And even if he didn't, some birds just have hidden genetic defects. It's still very heartbreaking but don't think that you did anything wrong.

By any chance did he come from a pet store? Unfortunately a lot of pet store budgies come from the equivalent of puppy mills. Due to poor breeding, etc many of them just don't live very long. And even if he didn't, some birds just have hidden genetic defects. It's still very heartbreaking but don't think that you did anything wrong.

He did. My parakeets were the only ones not rescued.
