I don’t know if this is really an emergency, but Quinn my baby Cockatiel went to fly onto my mum’s cup of hot tea and missed! Half of his body went in and his foot, the foot is really, really pink and he keeps holding it up. Would it be okay to put it under cold water for a few seconds?

I dried the half of his body that went in, and looks okay, it was mainly his foot because he kind of struggled (I think shock) and his foot was the last to come out.

yes, it would be fine to run his foot under a little cool water and then dry him like you did and keep him warm tonight

Agree about the cold water, keep an eye on it for the next 24 hours to see if it has any swelling to it...also watch for "peeling" of the skin....If you have any aloe, you could put some of that on it also...It is always good to have an aloe plant around, take a leaf, split it open and take the "gel" inside and put on the foot...this will help with the healing...:hug8:

Thanks! :hug8:

He is okay. I dunked his foot in cool water for a few seconds, took it out, dried it and put him back in the cage. He has been eating and squawking, and he isn’t holding his foot up, so I don’t think it was too bad. I will also keep an eye on it and watch for swelling & peeling of the skin.

Thanks again guys.

Try some aloe, its probably burned and that will help sooth it. Poor Quinn :hug8:

My dove once landed in a pan of hot oil thinking it was water. I remember his feet being redish/pink. Luckily it had cooled off a little so it was SUPER boiling hot..but i felt SO bad. I never saw any skin peel or anything tho.
