There is an airfry oven that I might purchase. The inside has an enamel coating, is it safe, called the company.

@Mizzely I did call the company and the girl I spoke with had no idea, just enamel coating. That's why I asked here to see if the subject had been discussed before.

Can you link to the product you are asking about? Enamel usually refers to ceramic, but I've seen some ceramic with PFOA in it so it's not a cut and dry answer

I thought air fryers were bad for other reasons, too? Like oils in the air, no? Or am I thinking of something else? (Entirely possible.)

You might be thinking of essential oil diffusers.

Air fryers are basically convection ovens. They circulated hot air inside the device to cook evenly. They do not actually need to use hot oil, like a traditional fryer.

I would think that if oils were getting to the air, parts of the home would be eventually covered in residue? I've not had that at all. I also have had no smoke, etc that would lead me to believe that a PTFE/PFOA free air fryer is any more dangerous than a stove.

The vast majority of air fryers on the market DO contain PTFE or PFOA because the non stick surface makes them much easier to clean. Ceramic is more expensive

I imagined that would be the case, like grease splatter from a hot pan, but smaller particles. Glad to hear that isn't so.

I know I'm a bit of a worry wart. I was concerned about moving into a house with a gas stove & gas heat -and a fireplace? :shocked3: There was no way those could be safe around birds! Then I realized that a lot of our members have gas & fireplaces and their birds are 100% fine. :ashamed1:
