Quick question about quarantine

I dont plan on getting a bird for the next 6 years or so untill I have my own place. I've got a question though I understand that when you get a new bird you should quarantine it for at least a month. But for tests like pdd are these tests reliable and if not are you putting your other birds at risk of contamination or have they got better testing for this disease now.

Often it takes awhile for a test to come back. Not all vet offices are equipped to read a swab and let you know within a couple of hours (before you take the bird home). Also, every test has some small number of False Negative results which could mean exposing your flock to a sick bird. Best to wait it out until you know if you're seeing sick behaviors.
