Hello!
I plan on starting clicker training as soon as my clicker is in.
I've read the clicker training classroom stickies and they were very helpful.
My questions are:
1. Do you limit cues to only clicker training sessions? (If you teach "step up" to a bird, must you always be in a training session to give that cue? If you teach your bird basketball, must it always be rewarded with treats?)
2. Will treats always be necessary for jobs well done, or only when working new skills? If only new, when do you discontinue clicks and treats for a taught behavior? Does anyone have trouble with a bird reverting back on it's training?
3. I understand how to condition some responses but others, such as recalling a flighted bird, or teaching a bird to poop only in certain areas (poop perches or cages) end up confusing me. I'd love to read more about how to get from target sticks to different tasks. Suggestions?
