I was wondering what the Beak Appetit Grass Cafe gets planted in (the soil, or whatever). Presumably it's safe for birds because isn't the idea that you can put the grown tub in the cage for them to eat? I can't get it here, but i would like to know what the soil is or what another safe alternative might be so that i can make little homemade pots of wheatgrass for the fids. :)

I don't have much help for you here, but would like to know the answer myself! I don't plant all the seeds at once since it's too much for the budgies.

I would just use plain, non-fertilized or enhanced soil without worry myself. You could even bake it in the oven for a bit to kill anything that might be in it before use.

I've actually been wondering the same thing. I want to grow some wheatgrass but not in soil with chemicals.
