My new pair. Alleged to be male and female have been bonded 6 months. Trying to mate with one another 1yr old. Hopes of breeding them one day. For nest boxes. Do you offer twigs if so where from. Or do you just add shavings to the box.

My understanding is you shouldn't try to let them breed before 18 months old. Even though they can and will lay eggs, 18-24 months is healthier for them and will help ensure the hen doesn't have complications.

Mizzely is right. Many birds can breed before they are a year old. But so can 12/13yr old people.
In both cases, it is medically very risky. So 18months to 2yrs is much wiser for your birdies.

Agreeing with what others have said here on waiting longer before you try to breed them. Have you bred birds before? If not, I would heavily recommend evaluating why you'd like to do so, and finding a mentor who is experienced with this species, as all species will have their own issues to watch out for, and methods to keep in mind.

Do you have any other pictures of these birds? Everything said above is very true but honestly I'm concerned about the beak condition of the one with the clipped wings. Might just be the photo but if that is anything like scissor beak, please do not let that bird breed.

I thought exactly same but wasn’t sure if I was seeing things
