What kind of parrots have violet mutations?
I know that there are violet parakeets, lovebirds, and indian ringnecks, but are there any more? Obviously there are a bunch of photoshopped bird pictures, but I was just wondering about other breeds of parrots that can be purple. I just love birds in that colour so much! I had a lovebird (Josephine) who was a beautiful shade of violet :)

I own some lavender orpington chickens. But in chickens, "blue" is actually code for "grey". And purple is kind of like blue, so ...

(Not my chicken. Couldn't find a good one on my phone)

They are lovely chickens, but definitely not vibrantly purple ... or even a little purple, really.

It is a nice shade of grey, tho.

The best purple I have seen in the bird world is on Lady Gouldian Finches. Most "purple" parrots are just shades of blue that look a little purple in some lighting conditions.

Or straight photo-shops, like this one:

(Not a real macaw color.)

But there are a few true purple parrots around. Female electus parrots are a striking contrast of red and purple. Never seen one in person tho.

Right, eclectus parrots! I knew I was missing one! I've seen some before, and they are truly incredible!

Yeah, chicken colour naming is funny....I do like that 'lavender' though!

For anyone who is curious and likes pictures as much as I do, this is what a dusky pionus looks like:

And this is a pair of electus parrots:

Fun Fact - Electus parrots are VERY sexually-dimorphic. Males are emerald green, while females are red and purple. The first orinthologists to see electus assumed they were separate species in the wild, because they look so different.

I had no idea!

Plum-headed parakeets are also sexually-dimorphic, but this time, it is the male who is more purple.
