So from the sound of it, she may have some heart issues. She has had the hawthorn treatment for heart rate before. When she goes in for her follow up, the other vet she saw recommended a heart x-ray. The vets didn't come right out and say it, but I think she may have had a heart attack, or tachycardia. She has to stay in her hospital cage, with no flight, for 2 weels until recheck. She's very quiet, and sleeps alot. The vet said recovery may be slow, and we need to watch and make sure she doesn't backslide, but sleep and food are doing a world of good. She's standing on a Beakwich and preening right now.

tachycardia in and of itself isn't a heart attack, but if she's having bouts of it I'm sure it takes a lot out of her. I do hope that she's able to get some rest, good food, and get back on her feet

Well, yes, it could be either. The vets feel they will know more at the recheck. They all strongly recommend x-rays.

I would like to mention for Portland folks that Dr. DeRose in Beaverton is an excellent vet, and the owner of St. Francis 24hr Vet, Dr.Baker, was as well. Both were very kind and concerned. We are lucky to have such good practitioners in the area.

Has your tiel had a full blood test done to check blood levels for fats and lipids, etc?

I wonder if tachycardia could be diet related?

My mother has tachycardia, otherwise known as arrhythmia, in humans, and it is, most of the time, provoked by diet, in some cases, chocolates, coffee or other caffeine related foods/beverages. My mother was prescribed Coumadin (warfarin), which in itself, is actually rat poison, in small doses that are prescribed to humans by physicians. Not sure how this condition would be treated by a C.A.V.

Whether it was a heart attack, tachycardia or other heart related medical issue, I am thinking that she will need to be prescribed medication for the rest of her life, to manage her heart functions. I am very glad that she survived this episode, as the heart, being a fragile organ, such attacks may be fatal.
