Thank you for the information! I'd be embarrassed to tell you what I paid for my dogs!
Why embarrassed? Whether you pay $50 or $5000, it means nothing.

Esko was a throw away that one breeder I knew talked me into taking. He was a Freebie.
Too much drive for a pet home, too bad of conformation to breed/show.
But he fit my home just fine.
Another I paid $1800 for ended up being a terrible fear biter, and after 3 bites and some very close calls, I had her put down.
Worked for 5 years with her, and she'd still try to attack my children. Luckily those bites were on dog people or I'd have been sued.
No pet home would have been able to handle her, the sports crowd didn't want me to trial her, poor dog was a mess.
She had non-stop drive, civil as heck, and ultra fearful.
She'd have spent her life caged/on a chain if I'd of rehomed her.
Value is what they're worth to your heart, not your wallet.

For those that don't know, a 'civil' dog is one that will bite people willingly.
Police dogs are civil.
My dogs that did sports did it as a game.
If the bad guy (the helper) dropped that sleeve, they wouldn't have bitten him, they'd have grabbed the sleeve and paraded about.
It's like tackle football for dogs. :)

Love your dogs, I ran sled dogs 20 or so years ago, and those two would have fit right in and had a blast.
We had friends who drove truck too. They had one dogs. The hubby was amazed how well my two walked for me, while his one pulled him around.

This is Shirkan my silver poodle. I've had 12 toy poodles over the years, with my first in 1973. All but one had names that started with "S". I had 8 adults & several puppies at one time, all in the house, & they all slept with us too. Talk about spoiled! They'd all follow me from room to room, down the sidewalk, etc., like a row of ducks, LOL. I in-house (no kennel) bred & raised them for over 40 years. I also had an in-home grooming business. I think I groomed every poodle for 50 miles.

I knew nothing about grooming other than keeping up with my english angoras in the 90's. In '97 we bought a standard poodle puppy after listening to my hubby whine about how much he missed our German shorthaired pointer ( originally my dog before we married) after he passed away at 12 from cancer. I told him about a puppy I had met and all he could hear was "poodle" and said no. So a week later I convinced him to meet the puppy and later that night he said out of the blue " I think I could do a poodle.." We called the breeder and went to her house and picked out one of the other puppies we hadn't seen before. Jesse had birth defects internally that we couldn't have seen but discovered a week after being home with us. His ureters were intramurally ( sp) connected to his bladder. He leaked urine. Not to be seen when he was outside but when he was sleeping I noticed his belly was wet and wondered why. Then I noticed drips on the floor when he walked around. A trip to the vet led to another trip for an IV dye test to see what was going on. He'd have to see a specialist for this micro surgery... Ugh. A couple grand or more. Hubby said... take the dog back to the breeder. They agreed and then refused and told me they would put him down. This ladies husband, showed up at my door to give us our money back and I told him to take the dog and he walked off,.. got in his truck and left. We were completely stunned they wouldn't take responsibiltiy for him. I couldn't find another home for him... could've given him to a rescue but just couldn't send him off not knowing his fate. Then.. hubby pipes up " Lets do what we can for him". I had cried for days. Jesse went to the specialist and had his surgery at 3 1/2 months old. His incision was almost the length of his tummy. He grew into the most beautiful boy.... and tolerated my grooming sessions with him which could last for hours. Of course... he loved my husband more! I used to tell Jesse when I had him on my grooming table I wish you were a Toy Poodle!!!! Age two and age 11.... He developed bone cancer in his right front leg at 12 and the cancer spread rapidly through his lungs and body within a month and had to be put to sleep after a seizure. The goofiest oodle poodle of all times...

Axel is drop dead gorgeous. The showline sure comes out in the coloring. How is his drive being part working line? Quanto was one of those showlines with great drive and a wonderful off switch. He was my perfect dog, the one everyone offered a home to 'if ever needed'. It never was! He was rock stable in temperament too.

Quanto's breeder was Randy Brent of VON DEN BLAUEN BERGEN
Quanto cost about $1200 over 18 years ago. Pretty sure he's still in business, but not positive.
Was very, very active in West German Showline, importing from Germany most of his stock.
He is in Virginia. I have seen some articles about him raided for animal cruelty a few years back.
I don't know if true, or he was targeted. You'd have to research.
Esko's breeder is out of the business.
The breeder I'd go to now is Gail Bauer of Royale Shepherds - Home | Facebook
She is also a Showline breeder, she is in Michigan. She also breeds some for guide dogs for the blind.
I met her and her dogs at some shows, I was very impressed. Her dogs are around the $2000-$3000 price.
I've been out of the sport for almost 6 years, so my info may be old.

Good breeders are expensive. But breeding for healthy hips/no epi/and other health issues is worth it IMO.
Temperament in GSDs is also a huge concern to me, many are shy/fearful/fear biters.

They have Dingoes in Alaska?
My neighbors shepherd Moses will drag his owner over to see me when she takes him for a walk. He's a happy greeter but he will always stand between us..almost, or sit on my foot. Even though he's friendly when he's on leash.... don't stick your hand inside his fence. And I'm not comfortable going inside her house at all, I have but I really don't care to. He's 8 now.

He's beautiful. Nice grooming job ( as they say "put down nicely"). Every breed has it's issues. I had one born half the size of his litter mates, with a cleft palate that went a half inch from behind his top teeth to a half inch before his soft palate. He also had a big V in his soft palate. You could see into his sinus cavity. He couldn't nurse. He was so tiny only weighing 2 ounces at birth. He was barely 3 inches long 7 about the size of a quarter in circumference. I ended up tube feeding him every 3 hours around the clock for 5 weeks, then had to find ways for him to eat without food coming out his nose. My vet assumed he wouldn't survive beyond a few weeks. "Tut" (my only poodle that didn't have a "S" name) was a fighter & would not give up. I couldn't sell him or even give him away. He had various issues with his palate problem. He'd get grass, bird seed, pine nuts & other items stuck in it & then get nose bleeds. He was super sensitive, so he wouldn't let you touch the roof of his mouth. After several trips to the vet, put under anesthesia to clean his sinus cavity, my husband rigged up a suction tube, we hooked to a carpet machine to clean his palate out. I could just suck out what ever he'd get stuck & off he'd go. He fell down the steps one morning & tore his ACL, ended up having knee surgery. He went totally blind at 15.5 years of age from cataracts, so we took him to Cornell in NY for eye surgery. The vets there were so impressed with him they all wanted to keep him. Tut lived to be 17. I also had a 4 pound male (Shawnee) that got severe arthritis at 15. It was so bad his hind legs crossed over each other. So I got him a custom made wheelchair. He was only 7 inches high. Had he been any smaller they couldn't have made him one, as the wheels only go down so small in size. Shawnee lived to be 16.5.

Most of the poodles I groomed were Toy Poodles. I had several Standards I groomed. I can tell you the Standards were much easier. Trying to clip those teeny tiny feet on the Toy's was always a challenge, as most had super sensitive feet. Jerking & yanking constantly. When I sold puppies I'd give a 1.5 hour pick-up instruction talk along with a 4 page hand out of instructions, which included rubbing their feet so they wouldn't be so sensitive & could be easily groomed.

Most see a poodle as a sissy dog , due the hair cuts, but they are far from it, as I'm sure you know. They are very intelligent, easily trained & very loyal. Most don't know the haircut was developed for hunting purposes. A black standard poodle, from PA, won best in show this year at Westminster.

I have Kai, a husky. He's been named Lobo, Oso, Riley and Ralphie.... was told he was 2 years old by the person who called him Riley but his chip said he was 4 years old. (he's nearing 5 now). I was supposed to adopt him at Riley (December of 2018), but the person gave him to a couple who decided he was not a good fit 3 weeks later... (January 2019) pretty sure he was flipped, even if not intentionally. Don't regret it!

Kai I'm guessing is actually a malamute x siberian mix as he's tall like a malamute, but with some siberian features. He's not crazy like many huskies are, either! People have trouble keeping their 30-50 lb huskies in a yard with a 6' fence. Kai is 64 lbs skinny and doesn't go over a 4' fence. (counting my blessings!)

Shortly after I first got him.... we were leaving the car dealership and I was putting back in the car.... he went from back seat to front and sat in driver seat! He was sooo skinny back then!

At my previous job, I was taking both him and my cat to work with me. More so him than the cat. (cat doesn't travel well)

The newer photos I have of him (that are good) are on a different computer though...

I honestly was never a fan of GSD's until I worked at the K9 kennels.... even then, haven't been a big fan of the "standard" GSD colors... black and tan, black, white or the black ones that have some tan and/or white spots. After working at the K9 kennels, I do love the breed a lot more! Especially fell in love with the sable colors! Particularly red sable! *drools* Love @Ankou's Axel!

@macawpower58 I can definitely appreciate the *German* line GSD's too, for their stout bodies! Had some nice "big" dogs there, too! (not usually over 65 lbs, though!)

Thinking of price... pretty sure the dogs were purchased for 3,000-5,000 ea and sold for 7,000 to 9,000 ea.... could easily be wrong, I wasn't in the 'selling' or 'training' department! I was the one getting covered in crap taking care of them! ;)

I had 4 elderly huskies at one point. I adopted 4 former sled dogs. The eldest, Tiger, was a 12 year old and I even had his daughter. The hardest thing about adopting the older dogs, I had him for only 10 months. He was getting up there in husky years. Though I treasure the time I did have with him.

They were great dogs. They were already old, so never hyper/crazy and honestly very well behaved and sweet souls. Tiger would hug my leg with only one of his legs and hug me for hours if I let him. Sometimes he would even fall asleep, leaning his head on his paw, leaning against my leg. Such a sweet heart!

The youngest of that group, Grey, was really cool. She was a husky lurcher. She was a model. Imagine a greyhound body with husky fuzz. She was only 7.

How I got these dogs is a LONG Story for another day :) I didn't have a digital camera at that point in my life (sigh the 90s) so the only photos I have are on film.

Dunno!

Adopted him from Petco, adopted through local humane society. He was an unclaimed stray.

Ragdolls described as...

Affectionate without being demanding
- He's extremely demanding! And he drools a lot!
generally docile and friendly - too friendly... hates being brushed or having his stomach touched... he'll attack/bite!
tendency to go limp when picked up - he doesn't go limp
should be introduced with extra care to existing cats or dogs - I've never had a cat that likes dogs before... if anything, he terrorizes my dog! I have a husky... husky owners complain about getting their huskies to leave the cats alone... I've got the opposite issue! :roflmao:
are playful without being overly active - pretty sure he missed this one, too... took a long time to get him to play with a laser! He used to just sit there and stare at it... maybe occasionally bat at it with one paw but otherwise not move a muscle... *LOVES* cat teasers though! Other than that though, or pestering the dog, he can be pretty lazy...

He does love to eat though... and probably needs to lose 4-5 lbs at this point in time... even trying a weight loss food... still fat.... he'll eat his own food, the dogs food, fish food, mangos, broccoli, green beans, just about anything really!

I tell people I have a 16 lb dog and 65 lb cat! Since that seems to fit their personalities better!

So I really don't know if my cat is a ragdoll or a mix... I do plan on Embark testing my pup but haven't really looked to see if there's something similar for cats... maybe I ought to?

I love the revival of this thread. I grew up with a collie that was so smart. She walked us to school and was waiting at the corner at the end of day. Never on a leash, gotta love the 60's. But here is my love today. My grand-dog Louis, along with my other loves of course. :)
