Hopefully the vets will determine what is going on and set things right for her. Stay strong Michael...

I was just reading the other post, and I’m so glad that there seems to be some improvement! I hope the infection can get cleared up and that Poppers will start gaining weight and will recover quickly. If anybody can help her get through this you guys can! Oh, and that part about Grayson...:heart::heart:

Poppers had come a long way since being at deaths door nearly a couple months back. She's doing really good. Eating well now. And her weight hit 418. A far cry when it was at a low of 340 and she was looking very skinny.
She had to literally be fed by syringe every 4 hours pureed food that was nearly water consistency. She couldn't hold any other food down there for a while.
Emeraid, her meds, and Gerber baby food veggies from baby food jars. The consistency was just right. I used squash, beets, sweet potato, chicken, green beans, a bit of mango and apple, which had the bulk and protein she needed.
It helped, because she needed the bulking up and energy to fight this. And fight we did.
My bird's back! Interacting, and gave me a kiss first time in a couple months on her own. Her eye sight, grip, and coordination has returned. The only down side, her vocals have not returned. Strange not having a screaming amazon, to having one that doesn't scream now. vet said the infection really takes a toll on the vocals, though it may return, it will take some time. She's trying, and makes noises, the excited wimper. The soft yeay!!! She says. It's coming, but slowly.

Excellent news :yah:
It is...quite a fight with the infection....but we won!!
And she's back to being her cheerful loving self again.
I know baby food ( gerbers) isn't the best thing for a bird...
But when your fighting the nasty infection and that's about all you can get down without puking it back up, you will choose to go with it if it means giving her energy to fight back.
She's slowly coming back to normal chop now, and seeds.
Pellets I put in blender, with grains and add cream of rice, to watery consistency, and she ate that for breakfast when sick.
Baby food just once in evening now...vet actually recommended it till she's got her weight back and took her off emeraid and all her meds. So now she can stop the baby food anytime.
Was a battle worth fighting.

She does look great, and I feel pretty good about it too. I've lost 5 birds in past, mostly old age and age related issues that are basically irreversible. And nothing you can basically do about it. Poppers is 14, wasn't about to lose another bird
When she has a lot of years ahead of her.
So yea I'm quite pleased, and so is she.

Oh no! Poor little baby Poppers. Parrots are so strong and versatile, hopefully she will heal and get used to her new normal. I am sending warm wishes and good luck to you and Poppers for a healthy and happy future. :fairy3:

I've been making her climb and walk on floor to me...getting the exercises in.
Make no mistake, a bad fungal infection can kill a bird. But it's treatable. You just have to be on your toes and get food and fluids down quite frequently, even though they vomit some back up. Keep the schedule and meds going, soft food and even baby food helps.
In the end, your rewarded your bird back. Because I almost lost her. It was that close. And that scary!

Glad Poppers is recovering well. What infection did she end up having?
