This forum is for advice about initial treatment given to your injured/sick bird until a qualified avian veterinarian is available. THIS IS NOT MEANT TO REPLACE VET CARE
Ah...your bird looks like a young male just starting his molt. Over the next few months he will molt in a yellow facial mask His eyes look nice, bright, and alert.
The vet just e-mailed me the results of the blood test.
Blood was collected from the right jugular vein for baseline blood tests (complete blood count and chemistry panel). The results of the complete blood count reveaed slight changes in the differential white blood cell count (lower number of heterophils at 27%; high number of lymphocytes at 63% and monocytes at 6%). The chemistry panel results revealed low normal total protein (2.2 mg/dL) and high normal bile acids (80 mcmol/L). Fecal gram stain flora was normal for the species.
Good. The significance of the blood work abnormalities described above is unknown at this point. Because she is doing better with no treatment, we recommend to continue to monitor her and to recheck these tests in 2-3 months. The samples should be run at the same laboratory for comparison.
(The discharge forms state that 'she' should be quiet and restful for the rest of the day due to the volume of blood that was drawn, but no one seems to have told her that; since we got home, there's been almost continuous heart-shaped-wings/hopping, playing and singing.)
