i think he will be fine, i am optimistic for him. thanks for all the ideas. I will have to try and get him to eat some mushy foods. i have tried veggies and cooked foods before but he wasn't very interested.

How is Pen doing today? Has he started to eat on his own? I am sorry to bother you with questions but was just hoping that things had gotten better for him.

You could try contacting Exotic Endeavors . They specialize in raising exotic doves and pigeons. They may have some experience that they could share with you.

Hello Annaleza,

I'm so sorry to hear about Pen! :hug8: He's now in my thoughts and prayers for a favorable and speedy recovery.

I currently have no direct experience with treating broken beaks, but I can point you to some places where dove and pigeon folks frequent that do.

You can try (if you haven't already):

doves-pigeons : This list is devoted to all aspects of Dove and Exotic Pigeon husbandry in captivity. Please restrict your questions and comme

doves_as_pets_and_friends : doves_as_pets_and_friends

Plus the other sites listed under the "Dove & Pigeon Care Resource List" in DOVEBOOK's Links page. I hope they can help; and if there is something I can do, please let me know.

Best wishes,

Sal

Handfeeding will help strengthen the bond also. I had a blue and gold that had an accident and lost a large portion of the upper mandible. I handfed a ground up mixture of seeds and other yummy things which she took quite well. The beak took about two years to totally grow back but there was great improvement in just a few weeks in her eating and energy. I am so glad your baby did not lose more than the tip. Yes, I know how stressful it is for both of you. I was living in a very rural area at the time and I of course did not anticipate any of this!
I will pray for your little one to get better quickly. You need some sleep too!

Just seen this...I'm sorry about Pen. His little beak is probably sore as a risen. (old saying) Is he eating any soft foods on his own yet? Hopefully, once it starts to not be so sore, he'll be able to. Prayers sent yours and Pen's way.

My mom's grey split the end of her beak a month or so ago and it took a lot longer than I would have expected for her to start eating much solid food on her own again. She saw the AV to have it cleaned up and dremeled. I would think breaking off the end would be much more painful. Poor little guy. WHat kind of bird is he?
