My 2 year old lovebird has started foaming at the mouth. She’ll start by looking like she’s about to regurgitate then all of the sudden there’s foamy saliva all over her beak. She’ll violently shake her head til it’s all stuck to her face. I wiped some off and gave her water but she’s been up all night doing this. She’s never acted like this, i’m very worried. I noticed she was very cuddly today, snuggling under my chin (which she doesn’t do often) and now she’s sitting on my shoulder trying to sleep. She looks very tired and was closing her eyes while eating food a few minutes ago. I’m waiting til the vet opens at 8:30am to call but is there anything i should be doing in the meantime?

Is she warm enough while y’all wait? I’m glad you’re getting her in ASAP, that’s terrifying. Keep us updated!

I would drive to tge vet and be waiting at the door because its very hard to turn away an emergency in person.

But have car warm . Cage bundled up.

Let us know

Any updates on how your little one is doing @Kim.Maria
Did you manage to get a vet appointment?
Yeah i brought her to the emergency vet clinic, they did a crop swab and she looked fine. They think she might have swallowed something so i’m going to book an x-ray. Nervous because they need to sedate her for that.

Did they recommend anything while you’re waiting for the X-ray?

There’s definitely something very wrong. They need to do another crop swab and a gram stain right away, and it’s good that they’re doing X-rays too.
