So on Christmas day I have to go to my aunts house and stay there for 3 days!
Im freaking out about leaving tiki here.
He cannot come with us :(
Tiki is a peach faced lovebird, hes SO not used to being alone. Someones ALWAYS home and always has him out.
I didnt feel the need to get a big cage because he only eats and sleeps in his cage. (hes on my head right now. :) )
his cage is 20 wide by 20 length by 30 height. I cant leave him in there for THREE days! Hes so used to flying.
all my friends are out of town, and all my neighbors have small children and I just dont feel right leaving him with them.
So this is my plan...
Bird proof EVERYTHING!! in my room, close my door.
And leave his cage door open and let him come out as he pleases. :)
It would let him fly and have access to his playgm and he doesnt really chew on anything.
so what do you think ? :)
Heres Tiki.. :D

You can't do that. Don't go.

ok maybe you HAVE to go. But you can't leave him all alone for three days! Do you have a vet who can board him?

No! Do not leave the door open.

As hard as it might be on him to be in the cage, it is far far safer than free.

How will you keep the food and water for him?

No one could come by once a day? Even a distant friend?

I agree with Saroj. Who is going to give him fresh water? Fresh veggies etc. You can't just leave him for three days. Maybe look in the yellow pages for pet sitters, but he cannot be left on his own for three days.

Even if your neighbors have children they are adults and will be responsible for him. They can put him somewhere it will be safe.

Please don't just leave him free in your room for 3 days.

Well.. I think I will ask the neighbors but they clearly stated that they would not let him out to fly aroung the room because "they were scared he would poop on them"
so just by that statement i know that they wouldnt be the best caregivers.

for food and water I would put many bowls around his cage full of food and water.

Emilie,

Yes Emilie ask the grownup neighbors to come check on your bird a couple times a day. Dont leave his door open, he could get hurt. I am sure they wouldnt mind checking on him for you.

Being in his cage for 3 days while your neighbors checked in on him and gave him fresh food and water is better than leaving him alone flighted in your room.

That's good, it's actually better that they don't let him fly around if they aren't used to it, don't know him etc. He can't just be left home alone for 3 days without care.

I think thats your best solution, Emilie :) Just get one of your neighbors over there to check on him and give him fresh food/water, and then maybe make a couple of foraging toys with special treats, or make him a newspaper wreath to destroy to he has something to do while you're gone. He will be fine, he just needs someone there to check on his food and water for him
