I've got these plastic chains that I put in Chipper's cage, and decided I'd try them in the foster bird's cage. I made a chain of them. I was excited thinking one was playing with them, but poor Little Richard had tried to go through one like a tunnel and gotten stuck. Thankfully, I was right there! I put on gloves and was able to grab him and slide it off over his head.
Not a fun moment. I hadn't even imagined that would have been possible. Screenshot_20200211-130027.png

We use those sometimes to hang toys in the goffin girls' cages. I'm ashamed it didn't occur to me before but I am grateful for your advice and will link them together for Buzzard to snip to bits right away.

I'm so sorry you had such a scare but relieved that you were home! :bluhug:

I’m so glad you were home! :hug9:

A good reminder for us all to check our toys. What is safe for one bird is not for another.

How scary. Those are Elvis's favorites. He plays with them nonstop all day. But he's bigger- so he can't get stuck. I never would have thought of a smaller bird getting stuck though so a very good warning. Thank you.

Something like these can be okay and used if they are filled with 2" birdie bagels, like a few as in 3 or 4 to each link.

And with any toy that can get around legs, feet and heads need to be sized appropriate so these things can't happen.

Glad your birds are okay!

Serves a timely reminder to everyone to be vigilant when choosing toys, or indeed anything that our fids can get to. I don't even let my flock play with the toilet roll tubes that they love so much without supervision. But even the most experienced can miss that one thing.
Be safe.

I am not sure if these rings are the same kind, but these are from a toy that had bagels on it. I just keep refilling them and have been for years. Hoosier is the only one who loves birdie bagels.

Those are similar! I think if I had a bunch of those bagels, he may not have gotten stuck. It took some real talent on his part to walk right into one of the holes!

I bet! Scary as can be! If they are filled with bagels, there is no way to get their head in it.

I check and refill them often. You can see the booger is good at peeling the colors off lol!

Years ago, I remember reading a caution regarding appropriate ring/circle sizes. If the size of the ring allows their head to fit through it needs to be large enough for their body to fit through also on the flip side, or small enough that it doesn't allow their head to fit through.
