Hi, I have a 4/5 year old male budgie, I have had him since he was a few months old and was ready to leave his breeder. Over the past 4 ish days a round pink bump has developed on top of his nose, it doesn't seem to be bothering him as he is being his usual chirpy and chatty self. I have no idea what this is as I am no bird specialist and I am worried. Seeming that my budgie is 5 ish is it common for birds to get lumps because he is getting older? Just like how dogs get lumps. I have attached a photo below so please reply to me on what you think it is! Thankyou

Did he bump it on something? Is it the same size or getting bigger?

@Ripshod ?

This could be any number of things including cyst, tumour or (the speed of it's growth would suggest) an abscess. Best thing would be to get him to a vet, sooner rather than later - the earlier it's dealt with the easier it'll be.

To be honest sometimes he does jump down or up on to his perch quite harshly so it's possible he has banged it. Also he tends to rub his head over his top perch which is wooden like so do you maybe think he could have scratched it?

I don't know if my family would take him to the vet or not because vet bills are outrageous these days :(

I'm having trouble telling from the pics if it looks like a scrape or a bump. If it's a bump and/or getting bigger, I would definitely do a vet check to be safe.

My birds have at times gotten little scrapes before. They usually heal up okay but you have to watch them to make sure.

Oh guess what, my dad just said last week he flew and skidded on top of the fish tank because he missed his landing and bumped his head a bit so do you think it could be that? He's stil happy and chirping away, talking to his seed stick :) the past few months his flying has become a bit weaker because he is older and he used to do laps around the room twice in a row but he can't anymore so he tends to land on the floor (sometimes, quite rare) or misses his perch on top of his cage but most of the time he does 1 lap and waits a bit to catch his breath

When you said it had developed over days I assumed it was a growth. But yes, a bump like that would explain this.

You need a plan for vet visits . We all pay the price for keeping birds healthy. Wellness checks, any injury or sickness. Its part of the responsibility of keeping a bird in your home.

4/5 years is still young as budgies can live around 12-17 years old. So please don’t say that he is old. And there are some that get to 18-19 years old so 4/5 years old is still super young if he is having trouble landing I suggest you get him to a vet check as something might not be ok.

I just woke up this morning and it has burst? He's still happy and cleaning himself and I've tried giving him a bath but he won't have one. I don't know what to do.

Take him to a vet. This could easily get infected whether you clean it or not.
