Perches and cardboard toys

Hi lovelies!! Its me againnn, it's been a while since I've posted!!!!!


Since it's getting around a year since I got Aro, I thought buying some new wooden perches was in order as I've heard you're supposed to replace them yearly. So! I thought I would come to you guys and ask where you get your perches from? Are there any type of perch that you think is amazing and reccomend?

Oh!! And, Aro has taken a huuuge liking to destroying cardboard lately and I want to encorage his fun in less "destroying my collectables" ways (He completely destroyed the case to one of my very expensive dragon quest collectables and it actually brought me to tears ahaha). Do any of you know any sites that sell good cardboard/soft wood toys? Or, if you sell them and want to share too that would be great!!

I can't recommend @Mizzely 's store Lil Monsters enough Lil Monsters Bird Toys . She sells an amazing variety of toys and perches that are absolutely perfect for your sweet Aro. Shell work with you to find the perfect goodies for him.
Also check out Seriously Nutz bird toys as well she can do these fabulous perches that span the entire length of the cage. I highly recommend the birch perch since the papery bark so super fun to tear off its been a huge hit with my flock.

I have cardboard in several toys Balsa and sola are super soft woods that appeal to shredders

I also just rip parts of cardboard boxes off and weave them into cage bars. My Jardine's looooves cardboard!

I'm trying to restock some of my perches but having trouble getting a hold of my supplier. I do have 3/4" available for most of them still though!

Apparently you're supposed to replace wooden ones often as even when you wash them they can get bacteria growing in them that we can't see that can be harmful!! Other types aren't as bad but the wooden ones are something to watch out for

It could just be a ploy to get us to spend more money tbf but I don't want to take the chance to risk Aros health Only the best for my spoiled boy xD

If it's any of the natural perch types, I have no idea what the ETA is. I've been trying to get ahold of my supplier for 2 months now and they won't respond I'm really picky about my sources so I'm trying to find a replacement.

Pine perches should be back in stock though

I've not had any bacterial infections in my birds using the same perches but I do wash them in the dishwasher.

Only time you need to replace your perches are when you birds have killed them.

If adding perches I would highly recommend flagstone perches from nutz great for taking care of sharp beaks and nails.

Mine go in the dishwasher weekly no tablets super hot, no problem.

Only time you need to replace your perches are when you birds have killed them.

I totally agree! There may be one or two other reasons also but realistically they do not need replacing because they have been used for a certain period of time.

Nature does not replace every branch yearly and those "perches" are out in some rather iffy conditions being used by many birds and other animals, I have known of birds to be nesting in the same branches for many years at a time meaning every clutch of babies is using branches for perches that are extremely well used and if it was a bacterial issue then I would think all babies using them branches would be sick and dying. n
Also worth considering is if they are a bacterial issue after a year in a cage then they are a bacterial issue when they were sourced from nature so they should have been retired before being used- all living beings need a certain amount of bacteria to keep immune systems healthy.... everything in life is a balance as far as I am concerned.

Many businesses and companies making and selling pet products come up with clever ways to use human ignorance and conditioning to sell either more or simply unnecessary products- think bird washes and feather sprays, dog washes, nappies, bird and other pet clothing (only really helpful for naked birds/pets or those in serious weather extremes but used by feathered birds and pampered indoor dogs more frequently for silly fashions appealing to humans)- I do not buy into most of this stuff and honestly find it sad that these companies are allowed to sell things that are not actually beneficial for the animals.
