I have always had trouble with Aldora destroying stuff, especially cotton perches. She currently doesn´t have any, I have a spare for her but I´m reluctant to give it her.
Now I have Lapis destroying her cotton sleeping perch... And Adelie has destroyed a small cotton perch, and it now making a mess of Sydneys ¨special¨ boing. (The online store has deemed the boings non-essential and have removed stock from their site, so I can´t buy a replacement right now  )

I´m not sure what the answer is, other than not to give any of my girls any sort of cotton perches or boings.... Am I missing something? What can I do? does anyone else have this problem?

Vet wrap them? That’s what I did with Burt’s and he got an extra day or two out of his :roflmao: He is much more destructive though than your little fluff butts I think so you might get four or five extra days out of vet wrapping yours:lol:

An update on my perches... Because I have found a solution for us :bliss:

A year after this thread, I started making my own cotton perches by hand.
They last me so much longer than the store bought colourful ones ever did, AND I can make them whatever colours I like!
I also make my own boings now, and the birds have been really enjoying them which is great to see.

I made this perch last year and it's still exactly how it was, not one pluck in it,

A boing using the rubbish yellow that I wasn't a huge fan of, I ended up making perches for friends and family with it to use it up,

A boing that took me a lot longer to make, but is super beautiful,

And some perches I made the other day to replace some really old ones, I made them bumpy like this to get my birds feet working,

Wow! How do you make those? The 'keets have been destroying their boings a LOT lately, making these would be really helpful!

How do you make those?
All the perches I made the other day are half knots, the perch in the first pic and the nice boing are chinese knots. All finished with whipping.

Hmm, ok, I'll look into it! Maybe something with a tight braid could also work? I'm not very experienced with knots.

What did you use to make them?
Cotton. It´s like a non-strechy tee shirt cut into yarn. It´s very versatile, I use it for lots of things, pots, dog leads, bags - it´s my hobby :)

I guess next time I'm at a craft store, I'll have to check it out.

Those look amazing!! Will certainly look into making some for LJ now, and maybe for the others who aren't allow rope too.
