Latest update!

20211008_172910.jpg

Patches is negative for mites and he's moved into the bungalow cage! :joyful:

He's such a brave boy. He jumped right in and landed on every landing spot. I think he's enjoying the flying space! It's definitely much easier to get things in and out now *phew*

I can't tell if Preeno realises Patches is in front of him. Maybe he's just silently eyeing up the new birdy amd scheming birdy things :roflmao:

The cage is pretty bare now but I'll slowly fill it up, especially when Preeno moves in! No more tiny cage, yay!!!

Give it time. Sam was completely disinterested in Scout when they were first introduced. Scout was not about to be ignored however. He was a pesky little boy. They are fine now. Although Scout gets a lecture each and every day. Well what do you expect from a little hen but a serious talking to? Lol

Did you let them out together? I struggle letting him out as he doesn't go back in the cage just yet. Patches is slowly growing more confident though, so I'm gonna try and see if I can target train him through the cage bars. He's just started eating spray millet so baby steps hopefully!

Preeno is currently disinterested too, poor Patches!

Yikes he snuck out and I had to catch him with the lights off :( he was pretty upset this time.

I would've left him but my husband needed to get in the house and Patches wouldn't have returned to the cage any time soon.

Better safe than sorry. It's too bad, but it's better than if he'd have been lost.

Yes, after the quarantine was over I let them out together. Scout followed Sam everywhere including into her cage. I expected some form of revolt from her but there was only mild surprise at the audacity of this young whippersnapper invading her home. She seemed fine with it. After about a week of luring him into his own cage at night (no small feat) I just let them be in the same cage. If there had been any problems I would have stopped it but there weren't.

Fuji is a nice name too but I like Patches better. So happy to see you made this decision. You had been thinking of getting a second budgie for a long time. I have also acquired a budgie recently! I wonder when OUR Patches will come. :p So hard to resist getting another one of these sweet things...

When I first got my budgie, I trained in a safe bathroom in case it didn't go back in. Happened several times but I never had to catch my birb. Maybe you can do the same? I didn't have any credit in him/her so I couldn't risk it since it came to me very very agressive with zero socialisation. :)

You had the cage in the bathroom? Unfortunately my cage just about fits in the shower and I wouldn't be able to move around much in there! Could you share how you did it? I may be able to replicate it in another room in my home.

I'm not able to lure Patches as well since spray millet means nothing to him now and he's still discovering new foods :(

Yess I took it to the bathroom when I wanted to train. If she went back in, she went back out but if she/he decided to fool around then I let her be. I have actually made a mini youtube series. I'll send them to you! I may need to add subtitles, let me see if you would be able to understand without subs then I'll message you the links. ٩( ᐛ )و

The current training situation!

I've been doing target training with Preeno here so Patches can watch too. They're getting more comfortable with each other on these perches so hopefully they'll be okay without the bars eventually!

Patches has successfully targeted but only with Preeno nearby, but still a step forwards! He's now eating spray millet like a champ. Must've discovered its yummy goodness ;)

How did you do target training with your budgies? I assume millet is the lure, but am not actually sure what target training is.

Just catching up with the thread. Haven’t been at the forum much recently. All great news. Poor Preeno—but I bet it’ll work out. Sweet birdies!
