I have a couple of Nandays out back scoping out a nest hole! I hope they like it and move in. I thought the Kestrels were back but better Nandays! I'd love to see them raise a brood here! That's be something Nandays AND Quakers breeding in my backyard!

Years ago I had a friend who bought one at a bird fair and she was in a quandary as to what to name him. My hubby suggested “Boston”. ( for Boston Red Sox”.

I didn’t know FL had quakers! I knew they were up in NJ and NY, I had no idea there were some down there. Aren’t there also wild (introduced) macaws somewhere?

I’m dying to go down there and go herping personally. Bring me back a tegu and a boa :swoon:

Well I think the Nandays are gone...The Kestrels have shown back up this morning to claim "Their" nesting spot. They were here last year and I thought I had seen the male so when I saw a couple of birds yesterday I dug out the scope and saw they Nandays I was hopeful. But looks like "Little Miss & Sir Hunter" are back. I do know the Nandays are mainly hanging out a bit west of me and with a mob of Quakers a block away they may have not been welcome here.

I don't know if the macaws were introduced or released by owners but there is a flock of B&G's

There are a lot of "Bird Mills" here and some have said the birds got away or were released for one reason or another years ago. So the birds that are here and wild birds who are several generation wild birds. True or not I can't say but it makes sense.

From what I’ve heard they’re not too much of a problem. But boas are a different story :(
Boas and pythons both. There are of course people who release animals (because they’re irresponsible [many expletive names]), but from what I gather the biggest culprit was a hurricane a number of years ago that took out a breeding facility. Burmese pythons have been the biggest issue, and unfortunately my favorite lizard, the tegu, has also been a major issue.
