What are the best pellets for parrotlets that can be sourced in the UK? I can't really find any parrotlets specific pellets online. Please do correct me if I am wrong!

Thank you in advance!

There are very few species specific pellets on the market. Usually the pellets aren't even different beyond sizing. So whatever size is good for similar sized birds (budgies, lovebirds, etc) should be fine for a parrotlet.

Thank you. What would you say from experience is the best brand overall?

The best pellet is:

The one they'll eat, do well on, and that fits your budget.

Even better if you can give them one without sugars or dyes, and that is vitamin fortified.

Lots of pellet options: Pellets for Parrots

I personally like Hagen Tropican and Harrison's the most, with Roudybush not far behind.

However the one I've had the best luck with is Zupreem.

Mine are just standard Celestial parrotlets, no particular mutation (at least not that I know of)

I feed mine Roudybush.
Yes they have problems with pellet diets so
-feed lots of veggies and fresh foods
-consider moistening the pellets

It’s my understanding that pellets are hard on their kidneys.

Do you feed a bit less than suggested them, or just more fresh stuff?

I've heard that even split mutation birds may have problems with pellets.

Probably the best thing to do is to strive for a fresh food based diet and think of pellets as a "vitamin" that's added in. Monitor health through the years.

Ok. They have been fine, I am just trying to give them a more varied diet

I am a big advocate of fresh for parrotlets.

Especially lots of veggies. Lots of other small parrots, like parrotlets, eat a lot of roughage, even lichen and things they find in bark. Fruit should be offered sparingly.

I have been impressed with cold press Tops pellets for parrotlets. Which I have started offering, but the parrotlets still prioritise their veggies. I never offer pellets alone and they do get budgie blend seeds with the pellet in the evening.

@Ali

You may enjoy this talk by Rosemary Low. She includes a bit about diet near mid/ toward end which is why I am connecting it to this thread :)
