Parrot show tips

I'm taking my Jardines to a parrot show this weekend. I'm starting to feel really anxious about it though. He attended the show last year with a rescue group. But I'm worried that he will fly off unpredictably - to land on someone's head or try to eat another bird's food. He doesn't like bird stands but is ok hanging out on his cage, so I'll bring a travel cage. Also I don't feel comfortable having strangers handle him, especially children. Has anyone got tips on attending parrot shows with your bird? Or would it just be better to bow out given my apprehension?

I would not take my bird to any function where other birds are present. The risk of disease transmission alone would be an unacceptable risk to me.

That's an important consideration. I would definitely feel that way if I didn't know the people or birds attending.
