Thats really strange is it over ripe? Then again things like older onions, potato and garlic start to sprout too. As long as the fruit meat is good?

You can try planting some and see what happens :D

Yes I have had that a few times. The aracaris didn't think the papaya ripe enough but the parrots thought the sprouts where great! They usually get the seeds any how. I wasn't sure about feeding it at first but the severe was visiting and while my back was turned just helped herself!

I had that happen to a grapefruit once. I planted the two sprouted seeds and grew small grapefruit trees (until my mom accidentally killed them..). I'd see what happens when you plant them!

i've never seen that before! we once had a papaya with a strange shape of mass inside! well the shape resembled a lot like an indian god LORD GANPATI (god with the head of an elephant) and the mass actually had a shape of the trunk so everyone thought its god's sign and were very pleased(let me tell you ppl he are very superstitious and orthodox)
i also heard a similar thing happened to someone but with a coconut
Wierd isn't it!

P.S i didn't know that papaya seeds were ok to give to our fids
