I was wondering if anyone could help me. My Amazon Blue Rocko, just passed away Jan 1 2025.
I am trying to identify his band Letters and numbers.
He had a round band that was split with the letters FGW with the numbers 518
I would like to know if I am able to tell approximately how old his was. I owned him for 17 years and he came to me via my bosses mother whom had him for approximately 15 years but they do not know how long the first owner had him.
I am devastated over his loss and want to do up a write up to stand along with his picture and his cremation ashes.

Thank you.
Shelley

I am very sorry for your loss. It sounds like your Amazon may have been wild caught. The U.S. banned the importation of wild caught parrots in 1992. The import bands sounds like what you are describing. It's a rounded band with 3 letters and 3 numbers. The first letter indicates what facility the bird came through. So "F" would be Florida. Unfortunately, the USDA didn't keep records. So it's not possible to find out an exact year. But he would have had to have come here in 1992 or prior.

Oh wow!

Both of my amazons were wild caught blue fronts.

I had the Vet remove the bands from both of my amazons, I was worried they'd catch it in a toy while I was at work.

The Vet kept them but I asked for MC's back when he passed away. I just looked at it and his was as you described! Round. 3 numbers following the letters but the letters were kind of scrunched but it APPEARS it started with an F.

Thank you so much. We know for sure that he was at the very least 42 year old if not closer to 45 years. So I guess he could have been much older, I miss him dearly and he had this small cowbell that he loved and I have it place by his ashes and his legband. He was my beautiful boy.
