we adopted a mitred conure with an open band. he passed this morning, and I looked more closely. it is open, marked with cga 481. I did a search, but all the stuff that came up was nonsence. I will look again, but was wondering if anyone knows anything.


just learned first letter means he was quarenteened in California.

I was going to say it sounded like an import band. Yes, the C means he was quarantined in California. Here is the USDA page that talks a little about the codes - unfortunately you probably wont get much more info than you have now from it :(

Privately owned commercial import stations use bands with an alphanumeric code - three letters followed by three numbers. The first letter signifies the state in which the station is located:


California - C,O
Florida - F
Hawaii - H
Illinois - I
Louisiana - L
Michigan - M
New York - N
Texas - T

The second letter denotes the quarantine station, while the third letter is part of the bird's ID number.
