So I've had some vine rings that I got Ollie a while back and put one in his foot toy bucket about a week ago and today Ollie got his head stuck in it. It wasn't tight or constricting but it totally freaked him out and he was flailing around his cage like crazy. I had to kick the dog out and get Ollie out to get it off from around his neck because he couldn't get it himself. I'm just glad I was here to get it off of him because he was going nuts.

I knew it was large but I thought it was large enough that his head wouldn't actually get caught in it. Wrong. He will still be able to play with them, only out of the cage under supervision!
They are about 1.5" wide. Here are some pictures. Just a warning to all green cheek owners and those with similar sized birds!

Some size comparison

glad he's fine! The rule of thumb is it should be so small the head can't get through, or large enough for the whole body to go through.

Thanks!
Yeah, I know that too and I just don't know why I thought this would be the exception. I must've just overlooked it. Could have been a sad mistake.

Poor little guy!! He is like, "MOM, get the danger ring away from meeee!" I am so glad he is okay and that you were there. Poor you, too - you must have been freaking out just as much as he was!

Haha he didn't appreciate me putting up to his face like that but I wanted to get a size comparison :p
And yeah it was freaky. Once I saw that it wasn't tight I was a little better but I was still nervous trying to get the dog out and making sure when I got it off it didn't hurt him :depressed: But it's all good now :D

Every toy can become a hazard. I am glad you were there. I had one of my Palms catch his beak in a big piece of wood. The cleaning Lady mentioned when I got home Poe is loving that new toy! He has been at it non stop for 20 minutes! I ran into his room and I keep it together long enough to react! I looked over and he had his wings out hanging in total stress! OMG! Palms are comical and I guess she couldn't tell but whatever! I reached in and he balance his feet on my arm while I slowly turned the wood to release with my other hand. He was fine in a short period of time but not me. I was a total wreck! His cheeks were pale as a sheet! I had a vine ball toy that was fairly new, one part got wrapped around the wing of my Queen of Bavaria and you couldn't even see it. Bailey is always hanging upside down and acting like a clown. My husband said it is strange that Bailey is in that same position! He looks caught. Even looking right at him up close and personal you could not see the vine around his wing. I decided to take him out of his cage to check him and that's when I noticed it wrapped around and under his wing! Could have done major damage! I watch my birds so closely but I'm not with them 24/7! Scary! I don't give any vine toys of any sort to my birds any more! And supervised they would be fine.

Oh so glad you were there and Ollie is ok! Just the thought that even though the wreath wasn't tight, he could have been hurt when panicking. Makes me shudder, every toy I get I wonder if it is ok for Stitchy. I am such a worrywart!!

Yeah that's what I was most worried about, him hurting himself. I was glad that I was there cause first thing I thought was if I wasn't he might have flailed so much it could've got stuck on something else.
And yeah I check them and think about them too.
