I totally misjudged and I thought I had another whole bag of his cockatiel sized pellets stashed away, but I did not. :(

Gave him a scoop of Opie's parrot/conure sized food - I knew he should be able to handle that size, just not sure if he would like it.

Omg. His cage is *cleaner* now. He still likes to dip but his water is NOT a constant sludgy mess, and his perches are NOT all smeared with wet food gunk. :roflmao:

Poi beaks are pretty strong. Some birds like to handle larger pellets but they may just bite a piece & drop it so might end up with more waste. It might be nice to not have to get 2 different sizes.

Bonus!

Burt prefers smaller pellets, I do too as he eats more than he poops on of the smaller ones- the large pellets are just a waste here unfortunately.

Opie wastes a lot. Honestly I wonder how that bird is alive. He "eats" HALF the amount the bag says an Amazon should have, and I'm pretty sure half of THAT is left on the bottom of the cage as dust and discarded pieces.
Maybe I should have tried giving him the small ones!

The only problem with Oggie and the big pellets is that now he climbs up to his "treat perch" to eat them, so he is definitely eating less just by taking so much more effort for each piece. I'll have to watch his weight just in case.

Secret grabs a piece and climbs to eat when she eats in the living room.

That just keeps them trim.
