I'm still fairly new to having birds of my own, but have been fascinated by them my entire life. I've only recently felt confident enough to trust myself with caring for a bird. I have a great network of bird loving friends locally, and it was my boyfriend wanting pet birds that finally gave me the push I needed.

We have 4 smaller parrots, and I'm ready to make my lifelong dream of a larger bird come true.

I've met quite a few hurdles with my birds that really frustrated me, but I'm not giving up! I'm going to keep reading, researching, and learning all I can to find the right type of bird for me.

Loki the yellow-sided green cheek and his mate Rocket the pineapple green cheek, the pied tiel is Aki, and the albino is Oberon. We're still searching for a Tatania, but I'm sure you tiel lovers out there know how impossible it is to find a pearl pied whiteface hen! Haven't decided yet what kind of lady friend will set up with Aki.

The Conures will be a year in September and ready to start breeding in October. Aki is 4 months, and we just brought Obi home a few days ago. He backslide a little bit and still needs hand feeding. I won't breeding any of the tiels until they are all 2 years.

All of them will be flighted and kept hand tamed as much as possible. We work with them every day. There's a very high demand in our area for these birds, so we're working directly with the shop where we volunteer time with rescue birds. The shop doesn't breed; they purchase and hand raise chicks for sale.

The reason I joined the forums is to try and figure out the right companion bird for myself to keep as a pet. I'm ready to bring a large bird home. I'm sure some of you have seen my other posts.

Yes! And they have all met her already we're even getting pet insurance soon. We already have 9 reptiles, so an exotic vet was an absolute requirement!!

The scale babies are kept completely separate and away from the birds. The only time they might even accidentally cross paths is when the reptiles are taken out for vet trips or educational presentations.
