hi everyone! this is my first time posting on the forum :joyful: I have a 6 month old cockatiel called charlie and his the silliest, clumsiest little guy ive ever met! :tieln:
i have quick question about paint. is there a paint out there that is safe for birds? i want to make some toys for him using natural cotton rope and wood but i want them to be more colourful and exciting for him than plain old wood. i wanted to do as much research as possible about the paint because obviously i dont want to make him ill. has anyone done this before or have any brands/ type of paint you know is non toxic? thank you muchly! xx

There are many low VOC or No VOC paints on the market today. Be sure you buy and use one of these. Your birds can remain in the house, but not in the room you are painting. These paints dry quickly and once dry are absolutely no-toxic.

For colouring wood or rope, you need a food grade dye. These are water-based which means that the colour will run if you try washing them. However, other solvents (liquid that the dye is dissolved in) aren't safe.

Painted or varnished wood isn't safe.

You can buy pre-dyed parts from some vendors - I think @calibird sells parts but the store is on a brief break.

Food dye for colouring and do also make sure the wood you’re using is a bird safe wood such as balsa or non treated pine.
