it's lunchtime and I thought I'd have a little chat with the Nikon guys about the new 85mm and the two old 85 mm's.
Well, the new one is a macro and not fast (f/3.5) while the old ones are f/1.4 and f/1.8 i.e. fast lenses. But unfortunately the tech support lady just wanted to read the specs off the sheet and said she guessed since 3.5 is a bigger number than 1.4, the new lens must be better :rofl::rofl::rofl:
I said ok thanks, I'll call back later and hung up

oh so with the 105mm you could be further away from the object and get the same size pic that you would get with the 85mm at a closer distance? Am I right?

In theory, yes.
He does use it as a portrait lens as well as macro.

Oi, I know nothing about cameras, but this all fascinates me :o:
A friend is trying to sell me a Canon EOS Rebel XSI, with the lens kit, but I have NO IDEA what this means. Its new in the box, she won it on this contest thingie and has never used it and now is short up on cash for Xmas...its tempting, but I wouldn't know the first thing about what I was getting.

I have the Canon XSi and it's a very nice camera, and easy to use especially on automatic :D

:omg: Going to head off to that link and check the sample pics! :D You MUST post pics the second you get it (if you get it). A caique eye is preferrable.
:( I thought it was a review not a press release. :( No sample pics. :(
