Night fright

Hello!

I’ve had two female budgies for about a year now. They had a severe episode of night fright last night. They are OK and there seems to be no damage to their little bodies, but it was really scary.

I run an air purifier nearby, and cover the top, front, and one side of their cage with a light-weight cloth at night (the back and other side are a few inches from the wall in a corner.) The bedroom gets quite dark at night.

I’m thinking about getting a nightlight for them. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good night light for two sweet little budgies? Where would I place the nightlight?

Thanks so much!

I cover my cages on all sides and leave only the front open. Any night light will work. I put them where the light doesnt shine directly into their cages. Make sure the night light is somewhere that doesnt cast a shadow on their cage if you walk by.

Another thing to consider. I dont have anything low in their cages at night. Things like perches, toys , food dishes etc. that they may smack their wings on during a night fright.

I just dim the lights for the whole room down to a good level for them sleep. Still bright enough that they can see though.
If this is an option, its the easiest one to do.
If the lights in the room arent dimmable, you can replace the light switch with a dimmer.
Last option is a floor or desk lamp fitted with a smart bulb you can control with your phone. These can even be programmed to turn on and off automatically with different brightness levels and color choices. And they can be had for under $20 bucks.

I have many smart gadgets around my house.
Let me know if you have any questions!

I just have a cheap plug in one that is only a slight glow, turns itself on when the room gets dark and off again when the room lights up. Pretty sure it was like $5 or less.
