Hello!
About two weeks ago I adopted a 3 month old Quaker Parrot, and they've been doing really well! Very social and will fly to me and sit on my hand or nap on my shoulder. Wouldn't let me pet him. That's fine, I thought, just needs time to develop trust. THEN today and yesterday my roommate comes in for a chat and the bird lets her pet its head!
She approached with knuckle first, stroked the beak and was able to move on to his head and neck with her finger. I try to do the same, and I get a chunk of skin ripped off faster than I could blink.
Not sure what to do besides sit around and wait for the bird to let me pet someday. I'm also concerned that if the bird bonds more with her the bird will develop behavior issues when they're separated once one of us moves out.
