Hello! I've recently gotten into fostering parrots and my next two have become two very unplanned Amazons. Amazons are probably the birds I have the least amount of experience with so if there's any quirks or behaviors about let me know!
I had about 2 days to mentally prepare that I might be having them come stay with me and then I got the message that they were being delivered when I got off work so I scrambled home and made some room for the huge upgrade of a cage that came from the rescue who brought them to me. I was originally under the impression that these were two untamed amazons but the moment the rescue and I met them was pretty much instant love. They seem very sweet and well mannered for being "untamed." There's been zero cage aggression and they're very gentle when taking treats. They were openly dancing and singing the same night they arrived at my place while they were still just inside their carrying cage.
Apparently they've been through 3 homes in the last 3 months and I can't possibly fathom why nobody wanted them. This is only really day 2 but they seem absolutely wonderful. I haven't handled them or touched then at all because we're still new to each other, but they'll talk and occasionally squalk to get my attention and one of them will wiggle her wings at me like she wants to come and hang out.
The one I was told is male has been posturing inside the food dish as if he might actually be a she, and the other one will use her foot to try and push them out like "can you please stop." I'll have to get it on video next time, haha. They're pretty cute.
