New Red-Faced Mousebirds

The 5 Red-Faced (RF) mousebirds arrived from MI safe and sound yesterday. Here are a few pix's until I can get some better ones.

I put the top of a corn plant in their cage so that they have some type of shelter to hide behind until they get adjusted. The platform makes it nice to put food or apple slices thru the cage wire so that they can eat something until they learn to get around the cage and find the plates at the bottom of the cage.

TeeWee is a sweetie Our FL sun will help all of them get in their nice red faces...then she ought to be stunning.

They are facinating! What an interesting species of bird! So neat to lookj at - Im gonna have to search em on YouTube as Im curious what their mannerisms/sounds are like.

Thank you TeeWee knows she is a pretty girl. The lady I got her from suggested that once she gets her red face to show her at bird shows. I have some white-backed that are show quality...so now I'll be researching on showing mousebirds.

Susanne, what beatiful birds. I am really drawn to all the mousebirds since I have come to this board. They are very interesting and I enjoy reading your posts about their behavior and nesting habits.

It's been awhile since I posted. Last spring I had bought several RF and they had very pale facial masks. After several months of exposure to the afternoon sunlight, and a plant grow light above the ladder where they like to hang out they have finially got their facial masks. And the lighting has really enhanced their coloring, especially the upper part of the tail.
