Hi everyone, I’m new here. My name is Todd, and I’ve been lurking around here for a while, but just joined today…

Well, my new 5 month old baby Meyers (tentatively named Kiwi) was suppose to fly up the 350 miles to me (I’m near San Fran) from LA yesterday, but the CloudStrike/Microsoft softwear fiasco that crippled many in the world nixed his arrival and our meeting each other, as Delta stopped accepting any live animals Friday morning, until further notice. They told my breeder, Carlos, that it might open back up over this weekend, we’ll see…

Can’t wait to meet my new buddy. He was lovingly raised by a great guy, and is so sweet and mellow. Carlos the breeder has kept me updated with videos which has been fun. He knew I was disappointed about not getting to meet Kiwi and start our companion partnership, so he sent a great video to me on Friday afternoon after he was rejected by the airlines. I’ve attached the vid here, to share this little charmer with the Poi community here..

Hi neighbor He’s adorable! I had a male Myers/Senegal hybrid that was so sweet from day one, I bet your little guy will be like that. My female Meyers was a feisty little thing but now at 5yo she’s become very sweet.

YES—he’s arriving tomorrow, on Sunday! He’s sweet now, but most hand fed, human nurtured babies are. I’m very experienced with birds, so I know that most likely between hormones or just his my-way-or-the-highway Poi nature, we’ll have at least a few challenges on our path together. My 1st bird was a wild caught Eleonora cockatoo in 1989, that tamed and warmed up to me incredibly, but he taught me above all else that these creatures are not puppies or teddy bears (well, okay, maybe on some mornings they are!), but essentially wild animals with behaviors and agendas of their own, and living with them means adapting with them…!

It took 3 days (after the Microsoft/CloudStrike software meltdown that crippled our nation) for Delta to get their act together and be able to ship Kiwi to me….

He’s a sweet, affectionate baby, as hand nurtured baby parrots should be. He’s been so mesmerized by the new surroundings and his plethora of toys (chewables to balsa wood to plastic) that he’s been eating only a little bit. I’ve got an eye on this. But I’m thrilled he’s checked out and chewed on every single toy.

Delighted by his noises, though people are right, his whistle can be slightly loud and shrill, though he doesn’t do it nearly as much as similarly sized new world species (ie. read conure).
