Hi everyone, I just decided to subscribe to this forum because I recently adopted a special needs Cockatiel that has a really small beak and can only eat spray millet and small seeds. I already own a GCC named Luci (short for Lucifer), he's still a bit nippy but his behavior is improving every day
I would really appreciate your precious help to set up a good cage for my new Cockatiel and some advice on how to feed him/her a healthier diet.
Thank you all :)

I haven't tried yet, but the breeder told me that the Cockatiel is used to a seed only diet, it'll be hard to convert him/her to chop and pellets. I soaked a handful of pellets in some water but after trying them from my hand he/she started to ignore them :sad8:
I also have to choose a good name for this little guy or gal :laughing2:
Plus, I have a really big cage that I wanted to set up for the bird, but I'm a bit worried that with that little beak it'll be hard for it to move around

Budgies get around with a beak that size so I would think this little one would be able to. Just make sure to pad tge bottom of the cage so if they fall he/she won't get hurt.

For a name Citroën, Citron, citrus, citrine. All would be gender neutral and refer to yellow or lemon. And with that beautiful yellow crest.

Super finely chopped veggies (in the processor), or maybe even bird mash could be good options :)

I'll try and make a really fine chop and maybe let the Cockatiel eat it along with the GCC to try and encourage him/her to eat it too and I'll make sure, while I set the cage up, to put a high layer of substrate and a lot of perches to prevent the bird from hurting themselves, thank you so much for all the suggestions :)
I really like the name Citroën, but I'm happy to say that this morning, while we were playing with my phone and thinking about a good name, the Cockatiel managed to type Lopi on the screen so...I guess we found a name!:laughing6:

Hi! What really helps Glimmer eat her chop is if we eat together, or at least if I pretend to eat with her. Maybe that would work for your baby.
