Petco does not euthanize pets that don't sell. They get discounted, rotated to other stores, or sent back to the breeder. If this person suggested that they would kill this bird if you didn't buy it, please report them.

Oh dear. What happened to the very nice original post? I was going to comment how nice it was and how glad I am that the bird got to go home with the original poster but now it's all gone?
