New Fungicide - A new hope for treatment of fungus infections

This new class of fungicides is very effective against Candida, Aspergillus and Pneumocystis (Some varieties). The very best quality about the Echocandins is that they are less toxic. This is important, because sometimes curing your bird of a fungal infection is just the lesser of two evils.

Hrmm. Echinocandins have been around for a little while. They are quite expensive, but useful for Candida and Aspergillus infections. You often still have to use other drugs as part of the therapy though (fluconazole, generally). My research project is actually working on designing and synthesising novel antifungal compounds that are non-toxic, so hopefully you'll all see another class added to the list in the future!
