Hi,

We recently adopted a 9-week-old curl-crested aracari. She seems to be eating well -- papaya and soaked pellets, but she does this thing where she "begs" with her bill up -- just like a baby bird being fed from a dropper, which I'm sure she was until a a couple of weeks ago. Should we still be supplementing w/ formula at this point? The breeder was simply leaving fruit / soft pellets out for her and hand-feeding her a bit to get her used to people.

Thanks for the help!!!

Welcome! They sound beautiful! I would love to see pictures!

I am not sure on your question, and can't think of aracari owners to help.

Sometimes birds like to be comfort fed off formula with their adult food during the weaning process.

@Shezbug or @Zara may know who to tag in this situation better than me!

I don’t know who to tag nor do I know much about them really.

I guess they’d beg and need extra TLC the same as all other baby birds do.

I’d personally do comfort feeds of formula or wet warm pellets if it’s begging.

She seems to really like the wet pellets, so that’s what we’ve been doing in response. Thanks for your help!

If the soaked pellets are working, I would continue with that. Saves you buying formula you won´t need for long :)
