Hi this is Pepper and Cricket, we are the proud owners of 2 blue and gold macaws who are around 7 years old. We live in Florida and have sooo many questions. After careful deductive reasoning, we have found that one of our birds (banded a male) is infact a girl and has started laying eggs. We know nothing. haha
Wish us luck in trying to find answers.

Welcome Cricket and Pepper! That is a sure sign that they're female when they lay eggs, eh? This could happen to anyone, I am sure. Just wanted to extend a big welcome to ya'll.

So do you have two females or one female and one male?

Welcome to the Avenue! :)

There are many people here that have had a surprise when their "male" bird presents them with an egg...it happens more often than you'd think...;)

Well least the eggs were laid ok...My fear with females is the possible & dangerous egg complications...

Wonder if they are fertile? Is the other male???

:coffeescreen: Well I'd say you already know more than whoever banded them! :welcomeavenue:

They won't know til the other one starts laying, too. :hilarious: jk

I'd suggest boiling the eggs, letting them cool and returning them to her either way, and possibly sending away for a DNA test for the other bird. The DNA tests are surprisingly inexpensive.
