Hi there! We bought 2 parakeets on the 9th and the 10th. We bought them from different places and I believe one is younger and the other is maybe young adult to adult. We have them in separate cages and the older one is definitely more at ease with us and doing much better at hand taming. He will go to my hand willing if there's food and if there's not, he will look all in my hand for it lol. He's still wary of petting and is ok getting on my finger.

The younger one doesn't even like hands near him outside the cage much less inside. He doesn't really try to bit, he more panics and tries to "fly" run away. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or could be doing differently with him.

I also would like some tips for how to help the older one adjust to being outside the cage without just immediately flying to the highest thing he can find and not coming back. (He's escaped his cage a few times when I had the cage door open lol)

What I'd do with the younger bird is try giving it its favorite treat(if you don't know its favorite everyones favorite is usually millet lol) through the cage bars, its may take awhile but your bird should come to it, do this for awhile then once the bird comes up to the bars no hesitation open the cage door and hold the millet, with your hand at the end of the millet so it isn't too scared, slowly get closer and closer until your bird begins being comfortable close to your hand, after awhile your bird may want to step up for the treat, although every bird is different and that may not work for yours! Thats just what I'd try, also with the younger one you can try just putting your hand on the birds cage, after awhile your bird should start to get comfortable with your hand on its cage. For the older one I think distraction is the best strategy! Let me explain this, put out his favorite treat in a foraging toy, or something to distract him while hes outside the cage. Again as I said before every bird is different and these may not work with yours and that's totally fine! Good luck!
