I have just adopted a female Eclectus, somewhere in her 20's. She has a wound on her leg that has not healed because she picks at it obsessively. The vet applied an e-collar and prescribed antibiotics.
The e-collar keeps her from biting the wound, but it seems heavy for her. She sits and sleeps with her head drooped. She perks up when I walk close, and she is eating and eliminating well.
She and I have a good relationship; she seems to like and trust me.
I am torn - I would like to take the collar off periodically to give her a break from it. I would only take it off when I am holding her so I could make sure she didn't pick at the wound during that time. BUT I am afraid that she will lose trust when I put the collar back on.
What advice do you have for me?
