My tiel, who is around 6 months old now, is in need of a nail trim. The issue is, the vets around me do not do bird nails, and he refuses to let anyone near his feet. I heard an apple tree branch as a a perch can take off the sharp tips? I was also thinking of ordering a nail filing perch? he does not seem bothers or in pain at all, but it does hurt when he tries to climb my face. Any help would be appreciated!

Are their any avian vets near you? I would think they would do nails for a fee. I cut my own birds nails. My hubby holds them in a towel and I do the clipping. Just a tiny bit is all that’s needed. I trim Sunset’s nails every couple of months. Niko hardly ever, and Cappuccino’s just once in a great while. I have a Saftey Pumice Perch for everyone but Sunset because they irritate her feet and she started getting bumblefoot from one. They don’t bother my other two, but if you get one just keep an eye on your birds feet. They are the ones with a smooth top and rough sides. Even with one, you will still probably need to trim your birds nails once in a while.

There unfortunately is no avian vets near me, and try as i might, even while holding him down, Bee wiggles his legs and kicks. I do not have anyone to help me either. I'll have to try a pumice perch and see how that goes. Thank you for the advice!

My vet used what looked like a mini dremel to do Jesse and Hope's nails. It was quick and left them smooth.
